Closing My Windows

I used to use Microsoft Windows to run my PCs, at work and at home.  A few months ago, I caught some nasty malware on my home PC, and it was a pain to clean up.  Another couple of months passed, and I caught two viruses at once, at work, that took a couple of days to recover from.  Three days ago, I got yet another malware infection on the home PC.  That was the last straw.

The work PC is running automated Windows/Microsoft updates, it has a good firewall/anti-virus system, administered by a professional.  The home PC doesn’t have automated updates, because the store that sold me the PC disabled them, and the automated anti-virus pattern file update isn’t working.  Even after manual updates, the problems remain.

This post is arriving through a CentOS laptop.  I use CentOS at work, and it is awesome.  Right now, I’m using SSH, FireFox, and Evolution, and the firewall.  That may be all the software I need - most of my work is in the web.

I’m not saying Microsoft or Windows are bad, but I do know that I don’t want to spend my time worrying about viruses, malware, and all the related software.

Time to make a financial contribution to CentOS.  Thanks.
