Lawmakers have long labored to protect the public from harm. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that HB 4299 passed today and has banned the design, manufacture and sale of products with no conceivable value, other than profit. This bill named several items to ensure citizens and corporations understand the type of products which are affected as well as the penalties for non-compliance.
In addition to the reduction of useless objects in the world, this bill strives to allow correction through contribution, a new way to allow charitable giving to replace punitive action. Thus, if cited, offenders can donate all proceeds from the sale of banned products to approved causes and avoid litigation and costly embarrassment.
People caught purchasing these items will be photographed and automatically added to the new facebook group - “People doing stuff they shouldn’t” as members, complete with their photo and offense. The only way out of the group is to donate $500 to an approved charity, as well as discard the junk.
A twitter feed has been created to allow rapid broadcast of newly identified items. http://twitter.com/junk_you_shouldnt_buy and another is in use for those caught selling junk as well as buying it. If the feeds aren’t active, please create them.
(It’s a joke)
