Social Networking - SEO - Meta Defense
Social networking is an important part of Web 2.0 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web2.0), connecting your site with associates, both personal and professional, through advanced XHTML attributes (http://www.w3schools.com/TAGS/att_a_rel.asp) can greatly improve SEO.
Another tactic that is extensively used is contributor posted referral links. Contributor posted referral links are links posted on sites other than your own which point to yours. Another term would be inbound links. Search engines read these inbound links as authoritative indicators that your site is referenced by others, and assume the content is more valuable, especially if the site has a high page rank.
However, contributed content which is posted for the sole or primary purpose of increasing the perceived value of a site by including a referral link is not a true indication of authority.
For this reason, a new meta tag has been established, the “contributed content” value.
<meta name="posted-content" content="id;blog-post*">
The posted-content tag identifies the content posted on the page by the site management. In this case, text and images posted in XHTML elements with id attributes beginning with blog-post were posted by the site management or editors.
<meta name="contributed-content" content="id;blog-comment*">
To use this tag, one would ensure the contributed-content is within an XHTML element with an id attribute that begins with “blog-comment". Un the code above, the asterisk indicates that all content id which begin with “blog-comment” include contributed content, as opposed to posted content.
This system allows site owners to ensure referral links posted in contributed content are identified as such, and search engines can then adjust their valuation of the links accordingly.
This is joke. It might be a good idea, it might even be real, but I posted it for fun.
