The Holiday Party - A Jester Hat, Sparkling Cider, and a Fruitcake
Every year I make a jester hat for the company holiday party Yankee Swap.
This year, I camouflaged it with a bottle of non-alcoholic sparkling apple cider and a fruitcake. Great care went into these choices. First and foremost, both were available at the local supermarket and both were inexpensive. The hat was encased in a festive tin as well.
The cider bottle looked like champagne or some other lovely liquid, and beverages of that spirited nature are always popular at the party. The fruitcake is a time honored tradition (Everlasting Fruitcake song). Together the items made a gift that was tasteful, fun, and somewhat useful.
But this year, I was sick and missed the holiday party.
So I brought the gift in to work. The cider went into the refrigerator with a yellow sticky that said, “Enjoy", the fruitcake was placed (wrapped in its cellophane) on the table in the kitchen, and the jester hat went into the Vice President’s mailbox.
Having distributed my holiday spirit, I went to my cube and did what I’m supposed to do.
Until the VP IMed me asking about the hat. He decided to raffle it off for charity, which is a great idea.
Today, I bought 10 tickets for the raffle of my own hat. I wrote down the names of the President, VP, my boss, the people on my team, the Director of HR, all my favorite people. Except me.
Tomorrow is the drawing. I’m hoping that the raffle winner is someone that has been on vacation. :)
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!!!
