There are many good, hardworking people in America that are unemployed right now, through no fault of their own. They went to work every day, they did their job well, they lived responsibly.
But, there are a lot of people that think America owes them a comfortable life, with all the illusions offered by the media, especially TV. This post refers to them. They won’t read it.
- Years of teaching people that they can have things they can’t pay for.
- Years of giving children what they wanted, instead of what they needed.
- Years of striving to avoid labor.
- Years of ‘get rich quick’ schemes.
- Years of selfish, instant gratification.
- Years of not saving.
- Years of foolish services like cable tv, Internet access, and expensive cell phones.
- Years of big vehicles that waste gas.
- Years of poor diet and fast food.
Wake up.
This is a collective problem now, everyone is suffering.
- If you don’t have the money to buy something, you can’t have it until you get more money.
- You have to work to get money. You had better find something you’re good at and do it. You have to do it well enough that people will pay you, whether you’re an employee, contractor, consultant, or independent business.
- Your health is your responsibility, not anyone else’s. Take care of yourself.
- Shut off the television. Cancel cable. It fills your head with things that aren’t real. Look around at the world you’re in. If you don’t like it, change it or get out.
- If you’re a kid, you darn well better work hard in school. It is your future. If you struggle with your classes, find things you like to do and learn more about them. Talk to teachers. Look for vocational opportunities (job skill training) in the school.
- Help others.
- Save your money. The recession is here to stay until America learns how to be responsible again.
- Stop buying into the ’stimulate the economy’ myth. You stimulate the economy when you go to the supermarket, pay the mortgage or rent, and buy gas. Pay your taxes.
