This morning, Hammie looked dead, so with a heavy heart, I carried him out beyond the fence to deposit his remains in the woods.
Apparently, Hammie was actually asleep, because as I poured the contents of the container into the leaves, he sort of sighed. He wasn’t dead.
Like a true wildlife specialist, I picked him up gently by the tail and put him back in the container and returned him to the garage, with a few strawberry bits.
As I turned around, I encountered a long dead, squashed baby mouse on the floor of the garage. You can’t win them all.
Let’s hope Hammie feels better after a few more hours of rest.
