This is the story of Hobo.
Hobo joined our family about a year ago. He’s an awesome cat. Loves to be with people and part of the action. He isn’t snuggly, but he’s very friendly. He loves to eat. He’s good to the other cats, I think.
Unfortunately, Hobo got hit by a car and was laying in the street. There was a lot of blood, and Hobo was clearly seriously injured. It was 7AM and I was on my way to work. I looked left for traffic and saw Hobo.
Remember, it’s 7AM. I called Lowell Road Veterinary Center and told them I had an injured cat. 15 minutes later, I got there and they were ready. They had the operating room set up, pain medication ready, and a three people ready to care for Hobo.
Upset, but aware that Hobo was exactly where he should be and I could do no more for him, I went to work.
I called the vet at about 9AM, and Dr. McAroy explained the injuries, treatment and prognosis. When I called again at around 1PM, they said Hobo was eating, which was amazing because the injury was to his jaw. And, they said I should come visit, so I did.
There was Hobo in a cage, with a small bowl of food. He’d been given pain medication, as well as other drugs, and he looked almost as good as new. His eyes were bright and he was clearly comfortable.
Later that day, I brought my older daughter back to the office to see him. He was licking the inside of a can of cat food, trying to get the last bits out.
I visited him the next morning and later that day, he came home.
Dr. McAroy had given him shots so he didn’t need any further medication. His instructions were simple, separate him from the other animals in the house, and feed him prescription canned cat food. Easy enough.
I worried. Every day, Hobo looked a little different, but, every day, he looked a little better. After about 10 days, he was sitting in the open window (there was a screen), enjoying the fresh air and wishing he could go out. Every day, he ate his food with gusto.
His fur started to grow back.
Wednesday, he’ll get checked, and he’s probably going to need a bit of dental work (one tooth removed), but other than that, Hobo’s fine.
Many thanks to Dr. McAroy and his team. If you’re looking for a vet in Hudson, visit them.
