Have you ever gone to one of those ‘planned communities’? They are beautiful homes and impossibly neat and clean inside. I can explain why they look perfect, and your home doesn’t.
The truth is that no one lives in the homes. Each domicile is time-shared by the community, with staff that ensures perfection between each use. So, you’re wondering where the people go when they are not in the home. They sleep in a barn. After they use the residence to impress their friends, they go back to the barn.
What about their stuff? They don’t have any. Those communities are expensive and most people sell all their stuff to get into the barn, so they can impress their friends with the place they don’t live.
Where do they eat and wash? At the health club! This ensures that the community looks active.
Now, you might also be wondering about the amenities. You know, the post office, grocery store, and the bank. All transactions are conducted with pretend money. Each resident pays a monthly fee and receives an allowance of pretend money to spend in the community.
My house isn’t perfect. One of the kitchen counters is refered to as the ‘clutter counter’. My work area is refered to as ‘the pile’. The kitchen table is usually buried under schoolwork, crafts, and objects in various states of (dis)repair. The dining room is upholstered in Polarfleece, that will eventually be sewn into warm, fuzzy stuff. The living room is the play room and is a sea of toys.
When I feel sheepish about my home, I think of one of my favorite friends, who shall remain nameless. She has a room that she dubbed - ‘the dumpster’. It is full of sewing and stuff … and you are welcome to remember her if you feel your house is not … perfect, too!
