SEOML is used to fully describe a site for search engines. It defines a very small set of tags which allow search engines to index sites more efficiently. These tags are placed in the head section.
Tags
- aff - The affliate tag is used to enclose site tags which include all the affiliated sites. This is very valuable for linking of related content, and search engines often use it to create attractive displays in result sets.
- aud - audience describes the target audience for the site. Attributes include gender, age, marital status, location and education. Search engines match the tag attributes with searches performed to better represent site content in results.
- site - Each aff tag may include one or more site tags. These tags contain URLs of affiliated sites.
- tech - Designed to engage those who focus on the technical aspects of the site, rather than serving the site visitors, the technology tag allows the development team to expound on their achievements. This data is disregarded entirely by search engines, but may be the most complete content in a sophisticated application.
- value - The value tag is used to explain why the site is valuable. If you have difficulty completing the content for this tag, you should probably build a different site. This data is interpreted by search engines very carefully, and sites of little or no value are often not indexed or placed after the 45th page of results, regardless of content.
